Problem
What users are trying to solve
Calendar overlays are useful for you, but they do not always make your busy time visible to the people booking you from another workspace.
Why this happens
- Different providers and organizations may not share free/busy state consistently.
- Imported calendars can be delayed or ignored by workplace scheduling tools.
- Personal events should block time without revealing personal context.
Existing approaches
- Subscribe to an external calendar feed.
- Manually copy events into a work calendar.
- Use a booking link and hope every calendar is checked before a meeting is booked.
- Move everything into one account, which is often not realistic.
Tradeoffs to compare
- Calendar feeds may lag or fail to affect workplace free/busy checks.
- Manual copying creates stale blockers after events move or get canceled.
- Connect the accounts, select the calendars, and choose where busy blocks should be created.
How ParallelCals solves it
- ParallelCals creates private busy blocks in the calendars you choose, so other calendars see the time as unavailable.
- Rules can be one-way or mirrored across selected calendars, with generated events deduplicated into clean availability blocks.
- Google Calendar, Outlook/Microsoft calendars, and iCloud Calendar can participate in the same availability workflow.
- Booking links are included as a natural extension, with custom questions, cancel/reschedule links, and booking management.
Ways to handle this integration
| Criteria | ParallelCals | Other approach |
|---|---|---|
| Calendar subscription | Creates actionable busy blocks in target calendars. | Often displays events for you, but may not protect availability for others. |
| Manual blockers | Updates and deletes blockers automatically when source events change. | Easy to forget and difficult to keep clean. |
| Booking link only | Protects calendars before someone asks to book. | Mostly helps after you share the link. |
FAQ
Will target calendars show my event details?
By default, target calendars receive private busy blocks. Original notes and attendees stay out of blockers, and title/location/meeting-link context is copied only if you enable advanced sync for a rule.
Can I choose which calendars are included?
Yes. You select the calendars to include, enable only the ones you want active, and create rules for the sync behavior.
Does this replace my calendar app?
ParallelCals includes a calendar view and booking links, but its core job is making availability consistent across accounts.
